Berkeley County police discovered the remains of over 200 dogs and more than 40 living dogs at the home of a Goose Creek man on Monday.

Judging that not all of the dogs died of natural causes, Loney L Garrett has been taken into custody and charged with ill treatment of animals.

"At the end of the year, people who got dogs and didn't want to keep them would get rid of them. A lot of people do that and he would take some of the dogs cause a lot of people know him," says Hitman. "You have to think to - if he takes these dogs on and nobody comes immediately to buy them he's stuck with them."

During the bond hearing, Garrett's attorney, Melissa Gay, told the judge after he took the dogs into his custody he became 'overwhelmed.'

Update, Febraury 20: A week after 45 dogs were rescued from a Goose Creek residence, Michelle Reid, director of Animal Rescue and Relief, says that many of the canines are making progress on their roads to recovery.

"At least we are seeing some of them wag their tails now."

Wagging tails is a good sign for these dogs, as they were allegedly extremely fearful upon their inital rescue and admittance into the Mount Pleasant Emergency Vet Clinic. Reid continued by saying,

"If everyone could go out there and smell what we smelled and see what we saw and listened to what we heard then they would get the full picture."
