Cameras, and budgets, and horses, big approvals at Charleston City Council

At Tuesday's Charleston City Council meeting the city approved its $146 million budget for 2011, also approved were new security cameras.

Aside from the usual suspect nature of a "no growth" budget approval, this is a pretty straightforward news story with little new to be added to the narrative -- except for the interesting coincidence that the same year the city axes its mounted horse patrol to save $125,000 its also spending a (federally funded) half-million dollars to add digital surveillance.

Sign of the times.

There's no added depth out there on that observation, but if you'd like reports on the debate about the budget and digital surveillance I'll point you to The Post and Courier and Live 5 News.
