Attempted Summerville robbery unsuccessful

Early Tuesday, an attempted robbery ended up with the robber empty-handed--and probably slightly annoyed.

At about 4:20 a.m., a man carrying a handgun walked into the Summerville Kangaroo Express (1595 Trolley Road) and demanded money from the safe...but he didn't get it.

After telling the store manager to open the safe, the robber was disappointed to find that the safe couldn't be opened for another 10 minutes due to its programming. Within those 10 minutes, several customers and a chip vendor entered the store, causing the suspect to leave without his loot.

The would-be robber was described as black, between 18 and 28 years old, about 5'7" and 165 pounds. He was wearing all black--aside from purple tennis shoes (interesting fashion statement).
