Update June 28, 2012: Myrtle Beach comes in at number 30 on the National Insurance Crime Bureau annual report that, "compiled 2011 car theft statistics and compared it to other towns across the country."
And like last year, car thieves aren't taking that nice new Mustang but they will gladly steal your '86 Taurus. We might be number 30 on the national list, which is bad, but not as bad as some other South Carolina cities; Columbia comes in just above us at number 29, but the number eighth worst place to park your car in the nation? Anderson, SC!

First Report August 3rd, 2011: The National Insurance Crime Bureau has released their "Hot Wheels" report on the most commonly stolen vehicles, broken down by state. So, which make and model tops South Carolina's list? The 1993 Honda Accord.
The report has the top 10 most commonly heisted cars , and in 2010, here's which vehicles were hot on either the parts or re-sale market:
- 1993 Honda Accord
- 1998 Ford F150 pickup
- 1999 Chevrolet full-size pickup
- 1999 Ford Crown Victoria
- 1996 Ford Explorer
- 2003 Dodge Ram
- 1995 Honda Civic
- 1996 Toyota Camry
- 1991 Chevrolet Caprice
- 1998 Chevrolet S-10 pickup
