Update December 14:

One of the burned homes contained a family of 12. That family is now homeless, but one Mount Pleasant woman stepped up to the call to help out.

ABC News 4 has a the video and story.

First reporting:

The number of home fires is on the rise as the temperature falls and more folks live together thanks to a tighter economy.

A series of fires hit three Lowcountry counties this weekend, and officials are reminding to check that your smoke detector is working and that you use space heaters safely.

The Post and Courier has a nice write-up on the fires, while Live 5 News has a nice video report (note: the audio's terribly low.)

The Live 5 video reminds us that places like the Red Cross are entirely dependent on volunteer support to do what they do.
