Pay raises on the horizon for all Charleston County teachers

After a two years of teacher salaries locked at 2008-2009 levels and various pay cuts, the Charleston County School District board members are taking the necessary steps toward awarding teachers the pay they deserve.

Live 5 News reports that board members passed the first reading of the upcoming school year budget on Monday. The amount of funding that came in from the state will potentially allow for all staff salaries to be restored to what they were before suspended pay raises. They will also see a 2% cost-of-living increase.

Back in February of this year, the Charleston City Paper's Paul Bowers did a feature on the Charleston County teachers' fight for promised pay increases; read that here.
