North Charleston is about to start cleaning up it's act with help, in part, from a recently received $400,000 Environmental Protection Agency grant to assess buried pollutants, ranging from trash to hazardous materials and petroleum tanks.

The goal is to clean up polluted areas and neighborhoods and redevelop them. The target cleanup area is the southern half of North Charleston where decades of Navy and industrial operations has left pollutants and residues is the ground.
