United Way works to prevent suicides

Trident United Way is hosting a seminar Thursday on suicide, which claims 32,000 lives each year in the United States. ABC News 4 reports:

Officials with the Trident United Way say one of the most important things anyone can do is talk about the issues.

"There are no (guarantees) but the more we know the more we are prepared to respond then the better chance we have to help somebody choose life," said Sally Burnett, with the United Way.

Burnett also points out some signs to look for, such as increased substance abuse or a change in behavior, according to News 4.

The seminar, "Break the Silence: Understanding and Preventing Suicide," takes place at Trident Health Finders in Northwoods Mall at 6 p.m. Thursday.
