A 73-year-old man was escorted off a plane today at the Charleston airport after crew members said he threatened former South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford, who was seated next to him.

Flight attendants said that the man was making verbal threats against Sanford on a Delta plane from New York. The man from Cold Springs Harbor, N.Y., was yelling about having friends in politics and seemed irritated with passengers including Sanford.

Crew members called ahead to have officers waiting at the gate, but the man was questioned and released with no charges.
