Wando teacher receives national recognition

Biology teacher at Wando High School, Ruth Truluck, was awarded the 2008 American Star of Teaching award for the State of South Carolina.

One teacher from every state is honored with this award for their contribution in helping children achieve in the No Child Left Behind program, and this year Truluck took the cake. She won out of the five thousand South Carolina nominations.

She selflessly remarks:
It almost makes me feel guilty, because I wish that every teacher could experience this. It’s the highest honor I have ever received.

After 30 years of teaching she was finally recognized for developing progressive classroom strategies helping every student excel.
