Tropical Storm Gustav forms, eyes Florida

Update August 26: We've updated our info on Gustav. Go here for the latest.

Tropical Storm Gustav
NOAAA new tropical storm has rapidly formed, and it could come up our way. Tropical Storm Gustav is predicted to pass over or near Florida.

The storm is expected to reach hurricane strength before passing over Haiti and Cuba.

The storm comes just as Fay is falling apart after a week of drenching much of the South. But it could be good news for our upstate that has been largely neglected by Fay.

However, most of the computer models suggest a more westerly than northern path.

It's still pretty early and storm paths change much and often, so stay posted to our Gustav page as this storm develops.

Update 6 p.m.: The 5 p.m. forecast has the storm on a slightly more westerly path. The storm would still affect Florida on this trajectory, but it seems it's less likely to come our way.
