Trains get a pass to keep blocking traffic during rush hour

Legislation that would have prohibited trains from blocking four-lane roads at critical times, has effectively died in a Statehouse committee.

The justification for the proposed bill is that trains often block large Charleston intersection for up to 45 minutes during lunch hour or rush hour.

It's a poor situation, for sure.

Go read about it at The Post and Courier.

To me, the bill doesn't make too much sense. It seems the answer is better infrastructure -- through more overpasses, rail lines, or better planning -- and not to reduce the capacity of South Carolina's train system. Our industry is having a hard enough time already.
