Update January 23: As the project remains stalled other municipalities are starting to eye the nearly half-billion in funding.

The State has a good rundown on the situation and just what a large portion of the state Infrastructure Bank funds are tied up; take a read here.

First reporting: Remember the public opposition to the last plan to make I-526 from West Ashley to James Island an "Interstate parkway?"

Well political tensions are even higher after S.C. Transportation Secretary Buck Limehouse told Charleston County officials that if they want to terminate I-526 on Johns Island and not connect to James Island, that not only will planning and environmental permitted have to be restarted, but so will negotiations for some $500 million in funding.

The Post and Courier has the story on this latest turn in awkward infrastructure debate; read the story here.

Keep up on this debate and get the back story on our I-526 topic page.
