With a higher price tag, latest Harbor View Road plan is more palatable

It's been years since the debate began on the widening of Harbor View Road on James Island, at it may finally be near an end — on the planning.

The plan that would widen 2.4 miles of scenic roadway has been assaulted for tearing down too many of the trees and taking away too much of the scenery that makes putting up with regular traffic backups worthwhile.

But a cost bump of $1.5 million is expected to save some more trees and absorb less land.

The Post and Courier has a solid rundown of what's up; take a read here.

And once the Charleston County RoadWise site is updated, you'll be able to get oodles more info here.

The road work may not be finished until some time in 2015.
