Tired of huge government spending? Well you can do your part to help by simply sending back your Census form.

If you choose not to, officials say you'll be part of the $1.5 billion problem that requires government workers to go door-to-door interviewing people. Dodge that and you'll be undercutting your Legislative representation and allotment of federal dollars.

The current national participation rate is 67%, but how does Charleston stand? 

• Dorchester County at 70%
• Berkeley County at 68%
• Charleston County is at 67%

Not too shabby, but a far cry from Livonia, Michigan's 87% rate.

Here's how it breaks down locally as of today, April 14:

• S.C. is slightly ahead at 68% (up from 65 in 2000)
• Mount Pleasant at 74%
• Summerville is at 69%
• City of Charleston at 68%
• North Charleston at 62%
• Sullivan's at 61%
• Kiawah at 56%
• Folly area at 41% (which is way ahead of the 2000 35%)

Best local sub areas in the region?

Mount Pleasant out near S.C. 41 (77%) and Summerville near Bacons Bridge and Dorchester roads (also 77%).

Worst local sub areas in the region?

The local tract of Folly Beach (37%) and the former Navy Yard (26%).
