4 empty seats on the Charleston school board and no one wants them (update: 8 step up)

Update July 15: The deadline for anyone wishing to fill the four empty Charleston County School Board seats expired today at noon.
Luckily, eight candidates stepped up to the plate and filed to fill the open sets in West Ashley, East Cooper and North Charleston. Head over to The Post and Courier for a list of the candidates.
First reporting: Four members of the Charleston County School Board are departing and no one has filed to run for them. Given the budget cuts and earthquake-risk related school closures, I can't say I'm shocked.
