Charleston school consolidation inching forward

A list of 16 criteria has been created to help officials evaluate how much they should consider closing a school.

The Post and Courier did some reporting on what the turn-of-the-mill step means in the grand scheme of things:
[Superintendent Nancy McGinley] said Wednesday that it was too early to tell whether the criteria would be changed before the board votes. One potential adjustment she has in mind was to weight certain variables so they count for more. That's been one of the major themes she's heard in the meetings, she said.

The process is expected to take several months, with recommendations on school consolidation not due to the school board until December or January.

There are several upcoming meetings where the plans will be explained and the public can ask questions:
Tuesday, September 23, 2008 – D4/City of North Charleston

Wednesday, October 1, 2008 – D10/West Ashley
Location: West Ashley High School (Auditorium)
Time: 6 PM – 7 PM
