Clock ticking for S.C. to attempt voter ID law for 2012 presidential election

South Carolina wants to limit voter access to only those with state issued photo IDs.

Although the Department of Justice rejected South Carolina's voter photo identification law, it is possible that the pending legal challenge could OK the law in time for the 2012 presidential election.

However, before such a law could be enforced the State Election Commission would need many months to prepare for and educate on the new law — so South Carolina leaders have a choice to make: wait and see, or assume that South Carolina will be victorious in its challenge and expend time (and dollars) assuming the new law will be OK'd by courts.

I'll point you to the Associated Press' excellent rundown of what's in play; read it here.
