A Michigan couple have purchased a Southern-style plantation home overlooking Charleston Harbor from the mouth of Shem Creek for $7.5 million, making it Mount Pleasant's most expensive residence.

The previous record for a Mount Pleasant residence was the sale of another house in the same Old Village neighborhood that went for a cool $3.25 million back in 2007. The sale even tops the sale of James Simmons House located at 37 Meeting Street in downtown Charleston.

So, what do you get for a whopping $7.5 million? Five bedrooms, a dock, luxury-level finishings, a saltwater pool and 7,015-square-feet of house.

The Post and Courier has the post along with an ariel photograph of the mansion.
