Minor retrofitting to Ben Sawyer Bridge coming soon

The final bought of construction on the new Ben Sawyer Bridge is expected to begin by the end of summer and take a month to complete.

Crews will be driving two additional support piles next to the existing piles on the Mount Pleasant side and the Sullivan's Island side of the bridge in order to increase the span's load-bearing capacity.

According to the article in The Post and Courier, the work will happen where the approach spans meet the causeway and the minor retrofit will cost at least $100,000.
