Charleston County's jail expansion is nearly here (update: opens today)

Image by Flickr user Vincent Montibus Dress nice for the interview, but don't fumble the handcuff trickery.

Update April 7:

The 332,000-square-foot expansion to the Charleston County jail, designed to ease the chronic overcrowding that has plagued the jail for years, opens its doors to 3,000 inmates today.

The addition to the jail makes it the largest in the state, and features top of the line technology and environmentally friendly features.

The Post and Courier has a solid piece on the new building, which is designed to meet the county's needs until 2025.

First reporting:

The expansion to Charleston County's detention center will open early in the new year, and that means the county is hiring.

Live 5 News has some nice text and video on the new more-efficent facility. And The Post and Courier has details on the 55 slots they're looking to fill.

But you better get in line as, Live 5 also says more than 300 have applied.
