Soldier laid to rest in North Charleston

Army Staff Sgt. Matthew Joseph Taylor, and Charleston local, was laid to rest on Sunday after a funeral service at New Covenant Church of God in North Charleston.

He died in Baghdad from "small arms fire wounds suffered while on patrol" on Sunday, September 21.

The Post and Courier went to the service that hundreds attended and reports, in part:
Inside the church while waiting for the service to begin, the crowd of about 300 watched a photographic memorial play out across large screens, showing Taylor as he grew from a little boy to a Fort Dorchester High School student to a soldier with a family of his own.

It's a good, if understandably sad, write-up. Go read it.
