Tuesday, April 17 is fast approaching and in the past United States Post Offices stayed open later on tax day, but that's not the case anymore. 

Across the county post offices will be abiding by thier normal 5:00 p.m. closing times, and locally our post office won't be staying open later ether. Even in big cities, like San Francisco it will be business as usual for the USPS. The break from tradition is all due to more and more people filing their taxes electronically.

...officials say there's little demand for a roll of stamps at 11:59 p.m., and therefore, little reason to keep the post office doors open late.

"There used to be a concern about how we would handle the influx of mail," said James Wigdel, spokesman for the U.S. Postal Service in San Francisco. "That volume is just not there anymore."

In 10 years the number of people who file their taxes electonically has nearly tripled, from 47 million people in 2002 to 112 million in 2011. 

If you're one of the 'old school' tax filers, below you'll find a handy map of most of all of the post offices in the area, make sure to get to one of them (with your tax returns) before 5:00 p.m.
