When donating to a charity, you want to believe the majority of your contribution goes right to the cause, right? The South Carolina Secretary of State's Office has released their annual list of angels and scrooges, highlighting South Carolina charities that are the best and worst in keeping administrative costs low.

The South Carolina Firefighters Association, located in Myrtle Beach, is on the Scrooges list, using only 24% of donations for their programs.  According to this WPDE story, they say they don't belong on the list since they provide training to firefighers and contribute to several foundations.

On the Angels list is Associated Charities, a Myrtle Beach organization dedicated to serving the needs of Grand Strand locals.  They offer clothing, household items, linens, pots and pans, and dishes to those living south of the Briarcliff Acres area and north of Garden City.  They distribute goods to about 100 people every Tuesday from 9 to 11:15 a.m. and as needed in emergency situations.  Tomorrow, November 18, they are distributing Thanksgiving meal grocery store vouchers.  In order to receive services, you must register and are limited to one visit per month.

Associated Charities accept donations every Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon.  According to the Scrooges and Angels list, 97.6% of all donations serve the community. They are located at 742 Lumber Street in Myrtle Beach and can be reached at (843) 448-6321.
