The City of North Charleston’s Cultural Arts Department is pleased to exhibit paintings by local artist Cory McBee at the North Charleston City Gallery from November 3-29, 2016. The public is invited to attend a free reception at the gallery hosted by the artist on Thursday, November 3, from 5:00-7:00pm.
In her solo exhibition,Breaking Waves, Cory McBee presents a collection of acrylic paintings that feature color palettes and subject matter inspired by her life on the coast. McBee paints in both contemporary and abstract styles, with concepts varying from whimsical to traditional. Citing influences that range from Curtis Jeré, Paul Rand, and Renaissance masters, she describes her process as a journey to discover the beauty in the evolution of an object, place, or idea through color, pattern, and form.
McBee’s artwork is a culmination of her experiences and training as both a fine artist and a graphic designer. She received an MFA in Graphic Design from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2006 and BA in Painting from The College of Charleston in 2000. In addition to being an instructor on both the high school and college level, she is the owner and artist for Modern South Studio, an online storefront for her original note cards, prints, posters, paintings, and more. I have never heard of Cory McBee and works of this artist, but this painting drew my attention. The play with colors is fantastic! If I happen to be in Charleston closer to November I will attend the exhibition with a great pleasure, but I am not sure because I have a lot of work at college essay writing services.
