The City of North Charleston’s Cultural Arts Department is pleased to offer a Children’s Theatre performance in recognition of Black History Month at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center from 10:00-11:00am on Friday, February 3, 2017, featuring Struggle for Freedom: The Life of Dr. King performed by Bright Star Touring Theatre. The program is best appreciated by audiences in grades 3 to adult. Schools, daycares, community groups, families, and individuals are welcome to attend. Tickets are $2 per child with accompanying adults admitted at no charge. Parking is free.

This powerful and accessible production has grown to become one of Bright Star Touring Theatre’s most requested shows. Struggle for Freedom celebrates the work and life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in the context of the American Civil Rights Movement. Featuring songs from the era, this production offers your audience the opportunity to experience the heroic work of Rosa Parks as she refuses to give up her seat, the March on Washington and many more of the key moments that shaped both the Movement and our country.

Each year, Bright Star Touring Theatre serves nearly 1,000 audiences in schools, theaters, libraries, museums, and more across the country. They offer a wide variety of curriculum-based programs ranging from The Lady of Bullyburg to Heroes of the Underground Railroad. The company is based in Asheville, NC, but performs regularly at the National Theatre in Washington, DC, and has gained international support, accepting an invitation from the U.S. Embassy to visit Moscow, Russia, with their programs. Information about all of their interactive shows, including production videos, photos, study guides, and more is available online at www.brightstartheatre.com.
