Two suffer burns from unknown chemical in West Ashley (updated)

Update January 26, 9:15 a.m.:

Andy Paras has been Tweeting updates on the current situation over in West Ashley.

According to Paras, one of the burn patients was taken to Roper St. Francis Hospital and has since been transferred to the burn center in Augusta. The status of the other patient is still unknown. As for the chemical, the Charleston Fire Department reports that it is an industrial-strength cleaning detergent that is highly corrosive.

Two young adults have been rushed to a local hospital to be treated for chemical burns after splashing themselves with an unknown chemical behind a West Ashley shopping center.

The Charleston County Hazmat team is on the scene to remove the bucket of unknown chemicals from behind the shopping center at 630 Skylark Drive.
