Columbia's canal front park: Yet another trashy river in South Carolina

Here in the lowcountry we have the tides. They're great because each day the come in and lift up all the litter and suck much of it away from our marshes.

But go further inland and there is no such force of nature to pick up after us. Thus at Columbia's canal front park that waste has collected into a rather large eyesore.

Now, you probably don't live in Columbia and don't care too much about it, but if you read The State's story on the matter you can get a real feel for where keeping the water clean ranks on our state's list of priorities.

Even though Charleston has luxury of not having to worry about too much trash pile up in its waterways, its not hard to see how an apathetic stance has echoed through our water.
