Photography Day Returns to the Center for Birds of Prey with Monthly Series Through End of Year

Photographers to Take Over Center Every Second Sunday

A special Photography Day series is scheduled at the Center for Birds of Prey the second Sunday of each month beginning September 8.  Whether you use a Point and Shoot or DSLR, you’re an amateur or professional photog—Photography Day is a chance to stretch your wings.

A variety of birds, such as Peregrine falcon, Bald eagle and Asian Brown wood owl, are strategically situated on perches and engaged in flight demonstrations to allow photographers to get the perfect shot. The photography portion of the day takes place from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., and then guests have access to the grounds until 5 p.m.

Admission to this special event is $45 and tickets are limited to allow for optimum visibility by all participants. Call 843-971-7474 to reserve a space. Additional dates in the series include: October 13, November 10 and December 8.

The Center for Birds of Prey was founded in 1991 to provide medical care to injured birds of prey. It has since expanded its programs to include educational programs for students and visitors, an Oil Spill Response Facility, captive breeding, research and conservation. The center is located on 152 acres in Awendaw (4872 Seewee Road)—20 miles from downtown Charleston and 40 miles from Georgetown.

Admission to the center is $12 for adults, $10 for youth (ages 6-18) and free for children younger than six. Admission includes a guided tour and flight demonstrations. Center hours are Thursday through Saturday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. with tour times at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. and flight demonstrations at 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.
