Mark Smith, co-owner and vice president of McAlister-Smith Funeral Homes, has announced that he's after the open Charleston County Council District 1 seat.

The seat was recently vacated by Joe McKeown who resigned on January 3rd to take a job with U.S. Rep. Tim Scott's office.

Smith, running as a Republican candidate, is currently running unopposed.
