Freedom Readers, Inc. is a local non-profit organization that aims to get children interested in reading and learning. Founded by Tracy Bailey in January 2010, Freedom Readers is going strong. With over 40 books distributed and $17,175 dollars donated so far, their 32 current volunteers see no sign of letting up. As displayed on their website, The Freedom Readers Mission has never changed.
Mission: To improve reading skills in low wealth communities by providing one-to-one literacy tutoring, free books for home libraries, and an inspiring, high-energy learning environment.
Freedom Readers is always accepting volunteers and book donations. Volunteers strive to promote the love of reading for young children of all ages in a fun and inspiring atmosphere. After a full year of tutoring, children will develop characteristics of good readers, such as becoming informed, learning about themselves, and reading with confidence and enjoyment. They have a Fall tutoring session from now through November 30. There's never a better time to donate or volunteer.
