Physician Champion Award honors distinguished and devoted doctor
CHARLESTON, S.C. (February 4, 2013) –  Credited for his exceptional leadership in furthering philanthropy as a means to support advanced patient care, J. Chris Hawk III, MD, recently accepted the annual Roper St. Francis (RSF) Foundation Physician Champion Award. 

Dr. Hawk, a Roper St. Francis Healthcare physician who practices surgical oncology and general surgery with Charleston Surgical Associates, received the award during the Roper Xavier Society Donor Appreciation Gala held Feb. 2 at the Charleston Place Hotel. Sponsored by Lillibridge Healthcare Services, Inc., the award is presented each year to a physician who exhibits exemplary service to the RSF Foundation.

Dr. Hawk was recognized for his dedicated involvement in promoting the Roper St. Francis mission through philanthropy. A longtime, loyal supporter of the RSF Foundation, Dr. Hawk was instrumental to the development of the Roper St. Francis Foundation Legacy Circle, which recognizes donors who have included Roper St. Francis in their estate plans.

Dr. Hawk is devoted to his patients and the advancement of healthcare in the Lowcountry. He has served on numerous hospital committees, including the Roper Hospital Board of Directors during the merger with Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital in 1997 and the American Medical Association’s Council of Science and Public Health He was  also a member of the South Carolina Medical Association’s Board of Trustees for more than 20 years and  served as president of the Medical Society of South Carolina in 1998.

Dr. Hawk has been associated with Roper St. Francis since 1978, when he worked alongside his father, Dr. John Hawk.
