Olivia Gossett: Charleston Fashion Week model profile

Olivia rocks the runway!

Q: Where are you from?
A: I'm from New York, and I've lived in Charleston for about four years.

Q: What is your favorite Charleston hotspot?

A: Definitely anywhere in the French Quarter or beach by day, and King Street by night.

Q: What do you do when you are not preparing for CFW?

A: I'm a student at CofC and a journalist for a few local publications. Find me playing Scrabble & Bananagrams in my freetime!

Q: How many Charleston Fashion Week events have you modeled in?
A: I modeled for Charleston Fashion Week last year and look forward to CFW 2010.

Q: What was your favorite CFW experience or moment in 2009?
A: OMG - not falling on the runway! Ha! Oh, and I got to keep a pair of shoes that I walked in! They are about 6ft tall, and I haven't worn them since the catwalk, but they look pretty cool in my closet.

Q: What are you looking forward to most for CFW 2010?

A: The buzz backstage is insane. Last year I met some great friends, and I can't wait to meet new people this year!

Q: Which shows/designers are you modeling for?
A: I'm modeling for Belle Couture Bridal, Hampden Clothing, Monkee's, emerging designer Larika Page, and feature designer Ashley Reid.

Q: Outside of rehearsals, how do you prepare for CFW 2010?
A: Modeling is most definitely about confidence, if you feel good in the clothes you're wearing they'll look better, and sell better, which is the ultimate goal. So, I try and work on confidence more than anything else.

Q: What would be your advice for aspiring models for CFW 2011?

A: Again, confidence is so important. If you need to practice a lot before to feel confident before an audition, or not practice at all, or wear your underwear inside out for good luck, in order to feel more comfortable and confident, then do it. And don't forget, while the walk is very important everyone can also see your face.

Q: Who/what is your inspiration for your personal wardrobe?
A: I don't really follow trends, because not every trend works for everyone. I keep photos of classy and fashionable iconic women near my mirror and closet to remind me of how I want to represent myself and be remembered. Tacky and trashy may get you looks, but it never looks good.

Q: What is your favorite fashion trend for summer 2010?
A: I'm definitely excited for the nautical trends I'm seeing on the runways and magazines. This style is something that can be worked on every body type and person.

Q: What music are you listening to when getting exciting about CFW 2010?
A: On my Pandora radio you'll find: Kate Nash, The Maccabees, The Blow, Ra Ra Riot, Gorillaz, Nouvelle Vague, and Regina Spektor.

Q: What is your favorite fashion outfit or accessory that you are rockin’ right now?
A: Ugh - I have to choose just one? Ha! I think everyone should find their own scent. Wearing a signature perfume leaves your mark!

Q: Do you use Twitter?
A: Yep, I use Twitter. BUT I strongly dislike the word tweet. Find me @oliviago.
