As development moves forward, take a look back at the history of Dereef Park

Dereef Park, one of downtown Charleston's rare green spaces - which also happens to be the home of a historic praise church built between 1884 and 1902 - is soon to become the site of a major residential development.

Paul Bowers with the Charleston City Paper has penned a follow-up to his August 2011 feature on the little-known story behind the historic African-American praise house as well as what's in store for the future of Dereef Park.
