Last Wednesday, Charleston developer Johnny Maybank watched proudly as a backhoe arrived at his 36 King Street property and quickly demolished it.

Maybank watched on as the 1950s era home crumbled to the ground, and none of the neighbors or historic preservationist objected one little bit. A rarity for Charleston.

Described by Maybank as "the ugliest house in town, the ugliest house south of Broad to be sure," he's now looking for a preservation-minded buyer interested in combining his 30 and adjacent 36 King Street properties.
