Sharpening Knives for Feed the Need

Join us at The Coastal Cupboard semi-annual Charity Knife Sharpening Event Friday, May 31, 2013 through Sunday, June 2, 2013 at its 644-J Long Point Road location in Mt. Pleasant’s Belle Hall Shopping Center. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 12 to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Everyone in the Charleston area is invited to get their straight-edged knives professionally sharpened for a one dollar donation per knife, with all proceeds benefitting “Feed The Need.” The Coastal Cupboard is also offering free gourmet food tastings, a charity raffle booth including a grand prize dinner for four to the Charleston Grill and more.

“This summer’s Charity Knife Sharpening Event will be one to remember. The store will be packed with knife sharpening stations so our guests will have a great experience; on top of that we have amazing charity raffle prizes and great vendors this year to make the event extra special,” said Pitner. “Feed The Need is a charity that is very close to our hearts and we hope to raise a substantial amount of money at this event to support their cause.”

Feed The Need was created to eliminate some of the economic burden that area soup kitchens and shelters are facing in today’s economic environment. 52 Charleston area restaurants rallied together and each committed to one day of food service, 52 weeks per year, at four local nonprofits—Tricounty Family Ministries, East Cooper Meals on Wheels, Crisis Ministries and Neighborhood House. The goal is to serve 500 meals per week to those that are in need.

President of Feed the Need and General Manager of the Charleston Grill, Mickey Bakst said, “Being as my entire kitchen is stocked with appliances from The Coastal Cupboard I am absolutely thrilled to have Feed the Need be the recipient of this great event. On behalf of all of those who will benefit from Coastal Cupboards generosity I say thank you.”

During the event, The Coastal Cupboard will feature many gourmet foods for guests to taste inside the store. Doc Crombie’s BBQ will host free samplings of their famous barbecue sauces, including their new hot sauces and steak sauces. Guests may enter the charity raffle for a chance to win prizes such as cutting boards, cutlery sets, Coastal Cupboard cooking classes and more. The ultimate charity raffle prize of the weekend is a dinner for four at the Charleston Grill with wine pairings, a $700 value!
