The Charleston Battery once again failed to best the RailHawks, and ended their regular season in 2-1 game before 5,039 spectators.

The Charleston Battery writes:
Playing in front of a vocal home crowd on national television the Battery conceded a shock early goal. Midfielder Matt Watson split the Battery defense in the 8th minute with a superb through-ball from midfield.

Carolina piled on the misery for Charleston in the 24th minute with a second goal this time from a set-piece. The Battery defenders were caught unawares as the ball was slipped quickly to the bye-line. Santiago Fusilier squared it and Diallo stroked home for his second, from just inside the six-yard box.

After the break the Battery finally came to life and a John Wilson cross in the 57th minute saw forward Lazo Alavanja come close with a redirected header.

The breakthrough came five minutes later after Armstrong flicked a header into the path of substitute left-winger Mike Richardson. Richardson surged into the box and hammered home past goalkeeper Chris McClellan.

It's a rough end for the the once top-ranked team that played in the U.S. Open Cup final.

On the upside, the team's a shoe-in for the playoffs, and the schedule should be announced on Sunday. We'll let you know.
