Get up to speed with Charleston Battery news

Charleston Battery head coach Mike Anhaeuser is heading down to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida this weekend to observe the adidas Major League Soccer Player Combine featuring 75 top pro prospects.

“The MLS combine is a great tool to find some of the top senior college players in the US,” said Charleston Battery head coach, Mike Anhaeuser. “It also allows us to meet with other coaches and staff from MLS, and the other pro leagues. It’s a fantastic event and will help us as we continue to build our squad for the upcoming season.”

What else is new with the Battery? Here's more from the press release:

The Charleston Battery will host the USL Men’s Player Showcase at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, South Carolina February 4th - February 6th. The event will feature 90 of the top U23 players in North America and abroad; in 2009 the Battery discovered and signed forward Tom Heinemann at the Showcase.

The Charleston Battery kicks off the 2010 season with a pre-season tournament featuring Major League Soccer champions Real Salt Lake March 13 – 20 at Blackbaud Stadium. DC United and Toronto FC also make return visits to the round-robin tournament. It will be DC’s fifth appearance in the Carolina Challenge Cup and Toronto’s fourth.

All three MLS teams will spend the week in Charleston, SC, training between the games as they prepare for the start of the Major League Soccer season.
