Local food bank gets half-million dollar donation

The Lowcountry Food Bank has received a $500,000 donation from Anita Zucker.

The food bank was founded in 1983 to "feed the poor and hungry of the ten coastal counties of South Carolina by soliciting and distributing healthy food and grocery products to nonprofit agencies serving the poor, and to educate the public about the problems of and solutions to domestic hunger."

Go read all about it at The Charleston Regional Business Journal.

Anita is the widow of philanthropist Jerry Zucker.

Update November 13: The Post and Courier has followed up on the donation, and notes a more-than 40% increase in demand of the food bank's services.
