Bill aims to stop student-teacher sex

A new bill in the Senate would make it illegal to have sexual relations between a student and school official has passed.

A similar bill has passed the House. Their version imposes a $500 fine if the student is 18 years old or more, it also imposes a 5 year prision sentence if the student is fewer than 18 years old.

Similar bills have been passed by at least 10 other states, all aiming to reduce incidents. The state has also instituted a program to train 10,000 teachers and other school employees to spot abusive-relationship problems.

The bill does not apply to college students. Odds are the bill will head to the governor.
