School board thinks about upping minority attendance at Buist Academy

The Charleston County School Board is looking to get more minority children into the student body at the prestigious Buist Academy, only they legally can't use race as a determining factor.

Don't know about Buist Academy or its complicated past? Here's a taste. So, in those things that happen when politics and laws collide they're looking into using methods that look at race-related factors to determine enrollment (Medicade, ZIP codes, etc.)

During the 1980s the school was forced to adopt a quota system that required 40% minority enrollment, but that was abandoned and now minority enrollment hovers around 25%.
