Coastal Carolina nearing long-awaited debut of new baseball stadium

Gary Gilmore waited until the rest of his coaching staff had left, until he was alone in the new baseball stadium he’d spent most of his career at Coastal Carolina University working toward and that he finally got to move into last week.

And that’s when the emotions hit.

“I kind of just sat there, said a prayer, thought about my dad and just kind of got overcome with emotion, to be very honest with you,” Gilmore said. “I put a lifetime into this and the kids, and I started thinking about a lot of things. I had me a good 30-minute cry of happiness, to be very honest with you. I’m just very proud of this place and this school.”

After years of dreaming, planning, ideas and finally construction – part of a joint $16.9 million project that also included a new softball stadium – Coastal Carolina will formally debut its new Springs Brooks Stadium when the Chanticleers open their baseball season Feb. 13.
