The Sun News gets an Online Facelift

The Sun News (MyrtleBeachOnline.com) announced early this morning that their website has received a bit of a redo.

The site was in much need of an update and the new site brings a cleaner look that is easier to read and it looks like less intrusive advertising.

via the announcement:

We’ve kept favorite features such as most-read articles and award-winning photography from our staff, and we’ve eliminated a lot of clutter that had accumulated on our homepage over the years as we added content.

We know that change can be disconcerting, but the digital world is constantly evolving as research and technology yield a better experience for readers online. The new MyrtleBeachOnline.com design has been extensively tested with users and loaded with best practices for presentation.

On the new site, pages will load faster, thanks to improvements to the system that powers it. Information will be easier to find, thanks to a streamlined, more modern presentation. Navigation is simplified, and photographs are showcased.

Most of the comments over at their Facebook page have been positive, liking the cleaned up look of the site. However, there are some who can't find some of their favorite sections, which is to be expected after a major redesign.
