Red Cross, Horry County firefighters install 127 smoke alarms in Myrtle Beach homes

As part of the National Day of Service, American Red Cross and local firefighters installed 127 smoke alarms inside homes in a Myrtle Beach area neighborhood.

Red Cross volunteers partnered with the Horry County Fire Rescue Department to install the detectors on Martin Luther King Jr. Day and provide safety information to people living in the Racepath community, according to a Red Cross release.

“In only a few hours, and with the help of volunteers and fire officials, we are providing the potential to prevent fire-related injuries and fatalities to more than 100 residents,” said Louis Palm, disaster program manager for the Red Cross.
