Santee Cooper announces Grainger demolition schedule

Santee Cooper announced Monday that the demolition of the Grainger Generating Plant in Conway will begin the second week of May and that the work should be complete and the property covered with new grass in the summer of 2016.

The company awarded the demolition contract to National Salvage and Service Corp., which is to begin mobilizing to the site on May 4, according to a press release from Santee Cooper.

Santee Cooper announced in 2012 that it would retire the Grainger Plant, which has two coal-fired units, as well as the two coal units at its Jeffries Plant in Moncks Corner.
