Strand Notebook | Aynor church holds event for children, new chairs

Children and chairs. That’s what an upcoming special day at an Aynor church is all about.

The Garden of Prayer Fire Baptized Holiness Church in Aynor is having Youth Day on Aug. 9. Activities will begin at 4 p.m. and will include children of all ages modeling Sunday attire and singing, along with other activities.

The Rev. John Vereen of Murrells Inlet has been the pastor of the Garden of Prayer Fire Baptized Holiness Church for about 10 years. His wife, Jennifer Vereen, said the church has helped the community in numerous ways and continues to do so. Each Christmas, they provide overcoats for children in the Aynor and Murrells Inlet communities, she said. They also provide back-to-school supplies to those children and will have the supplies to give to them during Youth Day.

The event is doubling as a fundraiser for the church, which is located at 1039 Gum St.

They are trying to replace worn-out folding chairs that have been their sanctuary seats for 10 years.
