Charleston County considering ban on texting while driving

Charleston City Council will discuss a ban on drivers reading and sending text messages while driving during Thursday's Finance Committee meeting.

The discussion will be had at the suggestion Councilman Joe Qualey, owner of the Qualey Law Firm on Broad Street. The meeting will begin at 5 p.m. on the second floor of the Lonnie Hamilton, III Public Services Building in North Charleston.

South Carolina Representative Wendell Gilliard has already proposed a statewide ban on texting while driving, and the city of Beaufort has already approved a similar restriction.
