Get ready for the first good freeze of the season, and perhaps the coldest temps yet recorded.

Monday morning's 60 degree weather is due to slide throughout the day thanks to a "potent" cold front, and to keep sliding until we hit nearly 19 degrees at 7 a.m. on Tuesday.

Brrr.

"Strong cold advection continues into Monday night with a chilly airmass settling over the area. Low temps will be in the mid teens far inland with upper teens to lower 20s all the way to the coast. Although low-level winds drop off considerably after midnight breezy winds persist due to the strong cold advection. The wind drops off considerably on tuesday but the arctic airmass persists and high temps will still struggle to climb above the middle 30s", writes the National Weather Service.

After another round of lows on Tuesday night, temperatures should recover:

• Monday: 60/19
• Tuesday: 36/20
• Wednesday: 49/38
• Thursday: 59/45

The weather will also be giving a run to the lowest recorded temperatures for those dates, but we'll be short of the all-time record lows — 6 degrees recorded in Charleston on January 21, 1985.
