Port Royal eyes The Shed for events hub (update: Time to clean it up)

Pecha Kucha was the last major event held at The Shed

Update April 4: Excited about the Town of Port Royal purchasing the Shed? Then show your excitement by coming out at 9 a.m. April 9 to help clean it up.

The town is looking for the community to help "dress up" the exterior, according to Town Councilman Joe Lee.

Refreshments will be provided, so just bring your rakes, shovels and any other equipment you think you may need.

Update March 30, sold: The town has officially purchased The Shed.

The Island Packet has a nice report with some turnkey details on how it will be paid for and some immediate next steps; read it here.

Now the question is will the town be able to turn a simple building into a keystone of an events and business renaissance for the community?

Updated March 17, agreement: The Island Packet has a report that Port Royal and the bank that owns The Shed have agreed to a $475,000 sale price for the facility.

The town took the first step toward purchasing The Shed on Wednesday night.

Check out the Packet's report here.

Reported February 13: With potential uses envisioned from musical performances to a hub for nonprofits to a food prep area for farmers market vendors, the Town of Port Royal is trying to acquire The Shed on lower Paris Avenue.

The building's 13,000-square-feet is seen as tool in the near term to spark economic revitalization in the historic area while the town waits for any movement with the much beleaguered sale of the Port of Port Royal land.

The Island Packet has a nice report on what's up.
