Breaking: A new Port of Port Royal deal

Open space, like The Green in downtown Beaufort, are at the forefront of the debate.

The saga of the Port of Port Royal land sale is back on.

After falling apart once again in January, a new deal is back on for the port at about the same value as before: $17 million.

Details are sparse: The potential buyer is unnamed, and though the deal is approved by the State Ports Authority, it still needs approval by the S.C. Budget and Control Board.

There's also been no word on how much the buyer is willing to respect the agreement of a 10-care park in the 51-acres of land.

Obviously, stay tuned to what could be the start of one of Port Royal's biggest stories in a decade (or is that the end of the story that began way back at the start of the Sanford era?).
